BLACK, Phyllis Jane

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, January 19, 2014 Phyllis Jane Black passed away on Jan. 13, 2014. She was born in Southern California. Phyllis loved the beach from the start. She attended Venice High School in Venice Beach and when she wasn't working she spent her summer afternoons on the beach with her friends. In the 1940s and '50s, she worked at North American Rockwell, where she met her husband Jack. They moved to Inglewood, Calif., in 1959. They had a son that year. They loved to head to the mountains to camp, hike and spend their Thanksgivings at the Sierra Glenn Ranch and spend a few weeks each summer in Newport Beach. In 1965, they moved to Palos Verdes, which made Phyllis very happy as she was close to the beach again. Phyllis spent her days working at the local schools, museums and even taught swimming lessons. She worked with glass and made beautiful stained glass windows and art. She loved to cook, golf, swim, travel and birdwatch. In 1988, they moved to Prescott, Ariz., and continued to do all the things they loved to do together, including golfing almost every day. She was a wonderful aunt, loved by all her nieces and nephews. Wherever she went, her smile would warm the hearts of many. All who knew her would hear these familiar words, "How can I help?" and "Is there any chocolate?" The world was a better place with her in it. She will be missed.
