STARKEY, Jasper Wayne


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, January 23, 2014 Jasper Wayne Starkey, 78, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away Jan. 20, 2014, of Parkinson's disease triggered by Agent Orange exposure during two tours of duty in Vietnam. Born in Marquand, Mo., on April 27, 1935, Wayne joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954. After 23 years of proud service, he retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Wayne later retired as the manager of custodial/grounds services for the Scottsdale School District. A VA Medical Center volunteer, he helped install the traveling Vietnam Memorial, as well as in many other capacities. Wayne is survived by Dee Starkey, his wife of 57 years; daughter Sherri Starkey; granddaughter Katherine Burke; sisters Dora Copeland and Henny Crook; brothers Joe Starkey, Jimmy Starkey and Larry Copeland; and other family and friends. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St. in Prescott, Ariz. A 3 p.m. graveside service with full military honors will take place at the Prescott National Cemetery, with a catered reception to follow at the Hassayampa Inn, 122 E. Gurley St. in Prescott.
