SULLIVAN, Owen


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, Sunday, January 26, 2014 Owen Sullivan, 68, long time resident of Flagstaff passed away January 20, 2014 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Owen was born in Newark, NJ, the youngest of seven children. He moved with his family to Arizona in 1979. He was married 45 years to his wife, Carol and together they had two children, Elizabeth Sullivan Motsenbocker (Tom) and Sharon Sullivan-Jones (Mark), and three grandchildren; Jenny Jones, Amy and Drew Motsenbocker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend. He worked for 20 years at NAU as a plumber and fire and safety specialist before retiring in 2005. He also served as a TQM committee member during his tenure. Owen enjoyed adventure and the outdoors including activities like woodcutting, traveling, skiing, fishing, boating, hang gliding, bungee jumping, hiking, biking, scuba diving, rafting the Grand Canyon and running numerous 10Ks and marathons across the country including New York City and Hawaii. He was especially proud of his two rim to rim runs through the Grand Canyon. Owen was an advocate for prostate cancer through Man to Man and Us Too groups. He spread the word about how important it is for men to check their PSA. Owen was always ready to lend a hand and was a good friend and neighbor. His smile and good humor will be missed. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and San Francisco de Asis parish. A mass will be held at Nativity Church at noon on February 1, 2014.
