Dr. Nathaniel S. Apter passed away September 29, 2003, in Peoria, AZ.
He was 90 years old.
He was born May 10, 1913 in Yonkers, NY to Louis and Sadie Apter.
He was a WWII Army veteran. He graduated from Cornell University and at the time of his death was President of the class of 1933.
He practiced psychiatry and neurology at the University of Chicago Medical Center for 46 years. He was also the 101st President of the Literary Club of Chicago. After retiring from medicine he moved to Dania, Florida and studied oceanography at Nova University where he specialized in snail research and became a leading authority on them.
Survived by his wife, Valerie, daughter, Terri Apter-Newbery of Cambridge, England, step-daughter, Jessie I. Cooley of Fredricksburg, VA, brother, Samuel Apter of NYC, NY and nephews Rick and Andrew Apter, grandchildren; Kimberly J. Cooley, Victoria Taylor, Laura Howell, Miranda Newbery and Julia Newbery and 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial services at the Briarwood Country Club in Sun City, Arizona.
