George M. McNeil, 82, of Phoenix, Ariz. passed away Jan. 11, 2014.
George was born Jan. 27, 1931 in Phoenix to a pioneer family.
His grandfather had one of the first newspapers in Phoenix. His uncle was Reverend Frederick McNeil at Trinity Cathedral. George went to Phoenix Union High School for two years before transferring to Bisbee High School for his junior year, where his mother graduated.
He graduated from Litchfield High in 1949 where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He scored 6 touchdowns against rival Peoria High, a record that stood for many years.
George served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the service he met and married Patricia Caruthers in 1956. He worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation for 25 years. He also coached Little League for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Margaret Waters; sons, Daniel McNeil and Dr. David McNeil (Dr. Nicole); granddaughters, Trisha Waters, Ella McNeil; grandsons, Greg Waters, Tyler Johnson, KC McNeil, Michael McNeil; and great-grandson Angel Molina.
A Celebration of Life will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local school.
