GORTON, Warren Melvin


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Friday, January 31, 2014 - Warren Melvin Gorton passed away Jan. 25, 2014 in Lake Havasu City at the age of 83. He was born in Norwalk, Calif., July 6, 1930 to Arthur and Esther (Weyandt) Gorton. Warren worked as a general contractor and painting contractor moving to Lake Havasu City seven years ago. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Naval Air Reserves during the Korean War. He was a charter member of the Elks for 57 years and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In the late 40s to early 50s, Warren built race engines and drove race cars attempting to break land speed records with Mickey Thompson on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Warren was also a lifelong avid fisherman. Warren is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Roberta Gorton of Lake Havasu City; son, Scott Gorton of Palmdale, Calif.; daughters, Debbie Blackwell of Mesa, Darice Pierce of Los Angeles and Shireen Gorton of San Diego; step-daughters, Laura Ausem of San Diego, Calif., Rachel Black of Las Vegas and Taryn Fleisch of Lake Havasu City; sister, Arleen Tracey of Norwalk, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
