TONDER, Richard (Dick) Wayne


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, January 29, 2014 Richard Wayne Tonder passed away Saturday, Jan. 11 at Prescott Veterans Memorial Hospital. He was 83 years old. Dick was born Oct. 12, 1930 in Omaha, Neb. He is survived by children Jodi, Jeff and Lisa; grandchildren Charlie, Lyndi, Laci, Cayla, Jennifer, Nick, Emily and Annika; and great-grandchildren Xavier and Melodi. Dick served our country in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. During the Korean War, he was stationed on the USS Owen and received the Korean Service Medal with two stars. During his adult life, he worked in the travel and hotel industry - including TWA Airlines, The Grand Canyon and the historic Vendome Hotel in Prescott. He also did volunteer work for the Game and Fish Department observing birds and other wildlife. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors exploring and camping and was very talented in photography and painting nature. He especially enjoyed the beautiful Arizona sunsets. He moved to Prescott in the 1980s and eventually settled in Yarnell in 2002, where he spent the rest of his life. The family greatly appreciates his friendships with Eric, Mike, Georgine and her husband Mark. Thanks to all who called him a friend. We will miss him and are grateful to have had him in our lives. The family loves Dad and wishes him farewell on his new journey.
