Wanda Pearl Burkhart (Plumstead)
Wanda's life was protected by her Heavenly Father from surviving a difficult birth on Aug. 3, 1925 until her peaceful release on Feb. 12, 2014.
As a graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital Nurses Cadet program 1948, she enjoyed a lengthy career serving in nearly every area of nursing. In 1950, she graduated from ASU with a BS in Biology, magna cum laude. She also earned a Masters of Science in Nursing from California State College at Los Angeles and was invited to join Phi Kappa Phi, honor society for graduate students.
She was a modern-day pioneer who worked to make this a better Arizona. As a member of Yavapai Community College founding faculty, she co-authored the nursing program and then taught it for fifteen years. Many of her students are serving in the Prescott area today.
From early childhood, she had an insatiable curiosity. To her, the most valuable thing in life was knowledge and the greatest gift was giving knowledge. To that end, she earned an advanced degree, taught in churches and nursing school, wrote, published a book, and traveled the world. She was truly a Pearl of Great Price and will be missed.
She is survived by three daughters, Faith Forbis, Sharon Lane and Ruth Meinlein; four grandchildren, Kaleb Forbis, Juliet Lane Williams, Jonathan Meinlein and Jared Meinlein; and four great grandchildren.
"Her children rise up and call her blessed" - Proverbs 3:28a.
