Gerhard died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona. He was born July 4, 1924 in the Philippine Islands; the son of Friedrich Christian and Luise (Kleiner) Umbreit. Gerhard was 89 years old.
He served in the United States Navy and married the love of his life, Margaret Clarke, on December 26, 1949. Gerhard was a chemist and worked in the coatings industry along with helping to raise three children. He was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma (chemical) and enoyed traveling, gardening, and jeeps; he restored a 1944 military jeep.
Garhard was very proud of his 64 year marriage to Margaret and his 3 wonderful children.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Lynn Umbreit (Bruce Haibach) of Albuquerque, NM, Nancy Umbreit of Albuquerque, NM, Eric (Diane) Umbreit of Fort Collins, CO.; grandsons, Scott and Mark.

Gerhard C. "Gerry" Umbreit was born on July 4, 1924, in Manila, Philippines, and passed away on Feb. 14, 2014 in Prescott, Ariz.
Gerry came to the U.S. in 1936 and attended Menlo School and graduated from Stanford University. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he married his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret Clarke Umbreit, in 1949.
Gerry was employed in the paint and coatings industry for over 40 years in Denver, Colo. After his retirement, Gerry and his wife moved to Prescott in 1990. He enjoyed many hobbies including travel, gardening and restoration of a 1944 World War II jeep.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Charlotte, Lucille and Hans.
He will be greatly missed by his wife and three children, Lynn and husband Bruce, Nancy, Eric and wife Diane; two grandchildren Scott and Mark; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
After a private family service in Prescott, Gerry's cremains will be interred in Denver, Colo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Menlo School, 50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton, CA 94027 or any organization of your choice.
