James E. Phillips
On the 18th of February, with all of his chores on Earth complete, Jim went to heaven to see what he could do to help out there. At the age of 77, he died peacefully at home with his companion Barbara Ecker at his side.
Jim was born in Prescott, Ariz., on Nov. 27, 1936. After graduating from Prescott High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Cold War while stationed in Alaska. He married Glenna on April 28, 1961, and they were married for 40 years until her death in 2001. Jim and Glenna had two children, Suzy and Justin, and one grandson, Logan.
Jim was a proud member of the Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff Posse for 32 years, the leader of the Swinging Swiners 4H Club, a member of the Yavapai County Fair Association, and an NRA firearms instructor. During his lifetime he wore many hats (Stetson): poet, butcher, cowboy, hunter, fisherman, cook, teacher, soldier, sinner and saint. If you didn't know Jim, you should have. Jim taught us all that happiness comes from good food and better friends, and that to him was the meaning of life.
Jim has departed, making "happy tracks" in heaven, but he will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the memories and the lessons learned.
There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m. with a celebration of life ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2110 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Arizona Pioneers Home Cemetery, 1300 Iron Springs Road. There will be a reception following the burial at the Humboldt Bible Church, 2500 Old Black Canyon Highway, Humboldt, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted on behalf of the Yavapai County Mounted Sheriff Posse crisis fund.
