Claudia L. Hastings passed peacefully on Feb. 25, 2014, at the Arizona Pioneers Home. She was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Neosho, Mo., to P.R. and Gertrude Smith. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy and brother Patrick.
After high school, she trained to be a registered nurse, but after a year decided to attend business college. She had a temporary job in Washington, D.C., and then returned to Missouri to marry her husband Howard Hastings, who preceded her in death in October 1973.
They moved to Winslow, Ariz. in 1942 where she worked as a legal secretary. They had three children, Howard (Phyllis) Hastings II of Lubbock, Texas, Paul David Hastings of Albuquerque, N.M., and Barbara (Gary) Vaughn of DuPont, Wash.; six grandchildren, Mark Hastings who preceded her in death, David Hastings, Holli Thetford, Noel Hastings, Scott Wagner and Shelley Carr; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Claudia was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Prescott. Family will have services in Neosho, Mo., where Claudia will be buried aside her husband, sister and parents.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to the "Secret Garden" fund at The Pioneer Home in Prescott. Donations should be sent to APH- Special Donations, 300 S. McCormick St., Prescott, AZ 86301; Attn: Ted Ihrman. This fund will restore a beautiful garden and family area at the Pioneers Home.
The family wishes to thank the great staff at the Pioneers Home and Samaritan Hospice for such special care.
