BUTLER,
Henry Charles
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 02/28/2014
Henry Charles Butler (Smith) of Show Low, Ariz., formerly of Grand Rapids, Mich., was born March 1, 1945, to Henry and Robbie (Smith) Butler March 1, 1945. He joined his parents and sisters Eleanor Spearman and (the Rev.) Patricia Mills to rest in the arms of our heavenly Father Feb. 21, 2014.
Charles was born in Hazlehurst, Miss. In 1964, after graduating from Parris High, seeking advancement in life, relocated to Grand Rapids, Mich. He did attend and graduated from Aquinas College, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in 1978. Charles retired as a faithful van driver from the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids. Charles provided transportation for the residents of Kent and Barry counties. He would take senior citizens, low-income and disabled individuals to medical, mental health and social service appointments and emergency food pantry trips, where there was no charge for these services to the clients.
Being a God-fearing man, Charles never married, but was a great mentor, father figure, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was always ready and willing to give you an hour’s free advice at the drop of a hat.
Charles relocated to Show Low in June 2013, where he quickly began making new friends at White Mountain Villas Apartments. Even with Charles’ failing health, he was able to travel over these United States.
Charles leaves many loving memories with his siblings, who will miss him so dearly. His survivors include Henrean Butler-Francois of New Orleans, La., William H. Butler Sr. of Lakewood, Wash., Christine Weathersby of Brookhaven, Miss., Eleanor Truvillion of Abilene, Texas, and Billie (Charles) Anderson of Show Low; and uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
Many special thanks go out to Kirt and Shari Boylan, P.J. and Monty Collier, as well as Sarah Cummings for being here for such a time as this. Thanks also to the many staffers of Summit Healthcare in Show Low, Payson Care Center, Phoenix Banner Good Samaritan, St. Joseph Medical Center and Phoenix and Tucson Medical Center.
A graveside “home going” ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Show Low Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
