Gwendolyn Dunbar, 74, loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, passed peacefully on March 3, 2014. Her love of family and memory will be carried on by her husband of 57 years, Bill of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; her daughter Traci, son-in-law Chris and granddaughter Delaney Conaway of Chandler, Ariz.; as well as countless friends.
Gwen was born on June 26, 1939, in Bakersfield, Calif. She graduated from high school in Paso Robles, Calif., where she met her husband and lifelong friends. As a Navy wife, she lived in many places, including Tennessee and Okinawa. Later her family settled back in Paso Robles, which she considered to be her first home.
In 1980, Gwen and her family moved to Prescott Valley. Her wish to work with children came to fruition when she worked as a school secretary at elementary and junior high schools in the Humboldt School District for 22 years. She loved being a part of the educational experience for so many and enjoyed working with staff and students alike.
Gwen loved life and was a very social lady with a smile for everyone. She had a keen memory for details that made you feel you were there whenever you heard her tell a story. She enjoyed a fun night at the casino or shopping with friends, as well as rooting on her favorite NASCAR drivers or her Phoenix Suns with Bill. Above all else, she enjoyed doting on her family. She will be remembered for her friendliness, generosity, humor and great laugh and will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
Gwen never wanted to trouble anyone, so her wishes for no funeral will be honored. Her family will scatter her ashes into the Pacific Ocean near her favorite beach.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Las Fuentes Care Center who loved and cared for Gwen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gwen's name to the Employee Fund at Las Fuentes Care Center, 1045 Scott Drive, Prescott, AZ 86301.
