Roger Eckert passed peacefully March 10 in his Lake Havasu home at the age 75. His wife and partner of nearly 50 years was by his side.
Born in Lawrence, Kan., Roger’s family moved to San Diego in 1941 where he graduated from Grossmont College, attended San Diego State University and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962-1969. Roger and Margaret “Margie” Minor were married in 1964 after a four-year courtship, opened their first flower shop in 1967, and quickly grew their San Diego business to five stores and 40 employees.
In 1979, the couple sold their California business and relocated to their current home in Lake Havasu City. They soon opened Lady Di’s Florist near the London Bridge, a business they successfully operated for 17 years and sold in 2001. Roger was added to Who’s Who in Finance and Industry in 1981 and received many awards in floral design. In recent years, Roger and Margie had divided their time between a cabin in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and their Lake Havasu home.
Roger is survived by his wife Margie Eckert and his father Rex Eckert of Lake Havasu City; nieces, Jodie Snider of Middleburg, Fla. and Jackie Hasselback of Fairfield, Texas; nephews, Allen, Peter, and Paul Weymiller of Seattle, Wash.; cousins, Bob and Carolyn Eckert of Smithfield, Utah; 10 grand nieces and nephews, Alex, Ben, Ellie, Hannah, Theo, Mary Grace, Stephanie, Jason, Cassi and Jake; and favorite dogs Honey and Willie.
