Phillip Homer Smith, 79, of Wickenburg passed away of natural causes on March 13.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1934.
He is preceded in death by his father Allban Smith; mother Ruth Redden Smith; and sister Barbara Rose Smith.
He is survived by his wife Jeri Robson; son Mark (Sherry) Smith of Phoenix; daughter Jennifer (Terry) Berg of Maple Grove, Mich., brother Don (Holly) Smith of Hansville, Wash.; granddaughters Candis (Troy) Rade and Kristen Smith, both of Phoenix; step-children Sherri (Howard) Kalendar of Overland Park, Kansas, David (Laurie) Conklin of Morristown, Doug (Carolyn) Conklin of Wickenburg, and Deidre (Bob) Schena of Wayne, Pa.; and great-grandchildren Jake, Mason and Caylee.
Phil was born in Prescott, where he graduated from high school in 1952.
After graduation, he worked for APS in an apprentice program, which bridged a 30-year career. For the last 23 years, he and his son Mark have owned and operated A-Z Pawns in Phoenix.
Phil was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church of Wickenburg, where he served on the Treasury Committee. He was also a model train enthusiast. Every Christmas, he and a number of volunteers constructed a train village at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum.
Phil especially enjoyed participating in the Prescott High School Mafia, a group of classmates that met quarterly for lunch and fellowship.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 19) at the First Southern Baptist Church in Wickenburg, 360 W. Yavapai St.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Wickenburg Christian Academy.
Arrangements are under the direction of David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home in Wickenburg.
