Janice was born in Carlsbad, N.M., to her mother, Sally, and her father, Jenson G. Davis, who preceded her passing.
In her high school days in Carlsbad, she was the lead actress in both plays as Helen Keller and Annie. She enjoyed her animals, music, concerts, movies, reading, cooking and traveling, and was always ready for a good debate. Janice could type a mile a minute and would hand us notes in shorthand, because she knew we had no clue what the hell they meant. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, mother and grandmother who always said what was on her mind.
Her eldest son, Terry M. Stokum, who was a chef, also preceded her passing. Janice is survived by Terry's daughter Mariah Flisser; son Jeffrey D. Stokum D.O.M., his wife Jennie and their daughters Karana and Aurora, all from New York. She is also survived by her lover and husband of 21 years, Robert G. Eckel (Roxy) of Prescott, Ariz.
While dating, they enjoyed many picnics and cookouts near Tonapah, Ariz., where Roxy was helping to build Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. He also brought her to the Prescott Horse Races one Sunday where she won the Daily Double. This luck helped her to decide to find work in Prescott as a legal secretary. She became an active member of the legal community.
Janice pursued her education as a paralegal secretary by attending Phoenix Arizona Paralegal School, where she graduated with the highest honors in her class. This is when we started to believe in angels at the wheel, because she would drive after work to Phoenix to school and then drive home to Prescott. Some of her traveling stories were true miracles.
She became an excellent paralegal and, while working for several local law firms, she helped to dispute and settle multimillion-dollar cases for their clients. Most recently, she was a great asset to the Yavapai County Attorney's Office, where she shared her legal talents for all involved.
Janice passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 16, 2014. She passed in the early evening with the most beautiful full moon rising.
She already is greatly missed by all her family, but they are comforted by the thoughts that she has had time to join her mother, father, son and Maker of the Heavens. We do love her and will cherish the sweet memories until we all may meet again.
A celebration of Janice's life will be on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 6 p.m., at the Marley House Chapel, 1063 Ruth St., Prescott, Ariz. Additional plans will be announced concluding the celebration.
