Alice Mae Caldwell, 25, of Phoenix was fatally injured at 1:35pm Monday when her car swerved across the center line and collided with a semi-trailer truck at the west end of Aguila on Highway 60-70.
Highway Patrolman Bob Tshudy had just passed Mrs Caldwell and her husband, Charles, who were traveling in separate cars, as they were traveling at a "high rate of speed" eastward. He says he made a u-turn and started to overtake them for speeding when the accident happened. He says that Mrs Caldwell's car seemed to swerve for no apparent reason. The car hit the truck's left front fender and then crashed into the trailer.
The Caldwells, says Tshudy, were formerly of Ohio, had recently lived in Fullerton, Calif., and were in the process of moving to Phoenix. Both their cars were loaded with household and personal items.
Mrs Caldwell's body was removed to Phoenix.
