COVINO, Edward John (Ed)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, March 30, 2014 - Edward John Covino, 85, dedicated husband and father and 22-year resident of Lake Havasu City, died March 16, 2014 in Lake Havasu City after a four-year battle with cancer. Ed was born in Watertown, Mass. July 28, 1928 to his mother, Maria Rosa Buonnano and his father Francesco Covino, both were Italian immigrants. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 63 years; their three children and their spouses and four grandchildren. Ed is the second youngest of 14 children. Ed and his wife Adua were married in Trieste, Italy Sept. 2, 1951. They met in Italy where he was stationed when serving in the U.S. Army. Ed was a Korean War veteran and served eight years as a sergeant of tanks, artillery and motor pool. After returning to Boston he and Adua moved to Los Angeles where they lived for 38 years. Ed then started his own company in the wholesale grocers business catering to Italian Restaurants and pizza places. Ed had a love of airplanes and earned his flight instructor/commercial licenses. He also volunteered as a pilot for search and rescue in the Civil Air Patrol. In addition to his loving wife Adua of Lake Havasu City, survivors include their three children, Joe Covino, Darlene Covino and Michelle (Toby) Colburn; their four grandchildren; Janae (Heath) Stromer, Jason Zirnite, Tara Kearns and Patrick Covino; and his last surviving sibling Carmela (Chickie) Pellegrini of Massachusetts.
