MCGUIRE, Gilbert Richard (Papa)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, March 30, 2014 Gilbert Richard McGuire (Papa), 85, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Pine View Care Home. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., to George and Daisy McGuire, he spent his life in Whittier, Calif., and Prescott. Papa was a man of integrity who loved everyone, especially Irene, who passed away six years ago. He worked as a milkman, starting pulling weeds in the front of the dairy, and ending up as regional sales manager for ADOHR Farms in California for 40-plus years, showing his children the benefits of loyalty and a strong work ethic. After traveling the world with Irene on many cruises, they moved to Prescott. Papa loved to build birdhouses from scratch and made many dollhouses for his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Papa loved to take naps whenever possible and never missed a chance to do so. He will be greatly missed. Papa had a sign outside his house that said "Inside this house lives an old Irishman with the love of his life." Gil and Irene were reunited on the 20th just in time for their 65th wedding anniversary, St. Patrick's Day." Happy anniversary, Gil and Irene. Family will have private memorials for Papa; no services will be offered in Prescott, Ariz. Papa was very proud of his four daughters, Mary Lou (Tom) Cornwell, Kathy (Woody) Okerlund, Patty (George) Bristow and Peggy (Steve) Seals. Papa had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, too many to count, but all very precious to him. He was all about family and connecting with the people he loved.
