A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Adult Center of Prescott, 1280 E. Rosser. ~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, April 05, 2014 Harold J. "Hal" Wenthe, a longtime Prescott resident whose career was in wildlife management with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at the age of 84. He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Effingham, Ill., to Delia and Emil Wenthe. Mr. Wenthe grew up and lived in Effingham until his late teens, when he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of lieutenant before his discharge in 1951. Shortly after he left military service, Mr. Wenthe came to Bullhead City, Ariz., to visit his friend Terry Starner and decided to make Arizona his home. He went to work for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, first in the fisheries division on the dock at Davis Dam on the Colorado River. He advanced to wildlife manager for Arizona Fish and Game when he moved to Prescott in 1960. He remained in that position for the Prescott area until his retirement in 1986. During his retirement years, Mr. Wenthe enjoyed being outdoors, turkey hunting, fishing, and camping with his friends. Mr. Wenthe was preceded in death by his sons, Todd and Keith; his sister, Evelyn Scheff; and his parents. He is survived by Dot, his wife of 54 years. A memorial service for Mr. Wenthe will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Wenthe's family suggests donations in his memory to one's charity of choice. Information provided by survivors.
