Edgar "Ed" Earl Wilker
(October 22, 1927 - March 5, 2014)
Edgar Earl Wilker of Winslow, Arizona, was born in Timpas, CO on October 22, 1927 and passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2014.
Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth, his sister Bertha Watson, daughters, Linda Bell, Lana (Fred) Ward and Aleta (Bob) Hanna, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
Ed attended La Junta Junior College where he studied Journalism. He met Ruth while she was working at a hospital in Denver and they married on September 12, 1948. He retired from Mountain Bell in 1982 after over 31 years of service, starting as a lineman and retiring as a Manager. After retirement Ed started a phone repair business, graduated from the police academy, was appointed (and then elected) Constable, and served as a Park Ranger.
Ed was a 3rd Degree Mason, Past Master of Winslow Lodge #13, and a member of the Shrine. He was the historian for the Masons for many years (a job he thoroughly enjoyed). He was Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge. He was proud to be a Shrine Clown and helped with the Winslow Christmas Parade for many years. He was a member of the Smoki people of Prescott.
For several years, Ed and Ruth really enjoyed coaching their Granddaughter Tara’s softball team. Ed will be missed greatly for his soft heart and good humor.
A Masonic Memorial and the celebration of Ed’s life will be held March 29th at 2:00 PM at the Winslow Masonic Lodge, located at 315 N. Kinsley Ave. This is open to the public. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winslow Council on Aging or Hospice Compassus.
Good night and God Bless you Papa.
