Funeral services for Thomas Gilbert Valleau, 30, New Holland, Penn., were conducted in the Alpine ward chapel Monday at 11am under the direction of Bishop H Arthur Smith. Mr Valleau, was killed Oct 11, in an automobile accident at Phoenix, Ariz.
Following the invocation by Earl M Devey, a sketch of the life of the deceased was read by Mrs Edward W Burgess. James C Urry, Salt Lake City, spoke of his acquaintance with the deceased, of his high ethical standards and of his activities in the church.
President Edward W Burgess discussed the resurrection and the meaning of the temple marriage.
Between speakers "The Lord Is My Shepherd" was sung by a quartette composed of Mrs J Paul Beck, Mrs Darrell Rhodes, Ronald Strong and Thayne Bateman. Leland Priday, accompanied by Mrs Wendell Kirkpatrick, played a violin solo as a closing number. Mrs Waldo W Bateman accompanied the quartette and with Ronald Strong on the violin played the prelude and postlude. The benediction was pronounced by Norton Nixon, Salt Lake City, and Barlow S Muir, also of Salt Lake City, dedicated the grave.
Mr Valleau was born July 9, 1920, at Buckley, Mich., the son of Gilbert and Annette Taylor Valleau. He was married in 1944 at Brownwood, Tex., to Lucille Muir, daughter of Mr and Mrs Milton B Muir, Alpine. In 1946 the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple.
A convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he was first counselor in New Holland branch of the Eastern States Mission and also superintendent of the the Sunday School. He was employed by the Holland Furnace Company and was on a business trip when the accident happened.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Annette and Nancy Valleau, New Holland; his parents, a sister, Mrs Elaine Tomilson, and two brothers, Eugene and Wallace Valleau, all of Michigan.
