ARMSTRONG, Morris Leon (Morty)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 Morris Leon "Morty" Armstrong Beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend, Morris Leon "Morty" Armstrong entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, April 14, 2014. Morris was born in Sayre, Okla., on Jan. 14, 1950, to Mildred and Donald James Armstrong. Morris spent his childhood in Bagdad, Ariz., with his parents and his sister, LaDonna. Morris graduated from Bagdad High School in 1968, and attended Northern Arizona University. Morris married the love of his life, Frankie Lynn Sorells, on Aug. 18, 1974. The two were blessed with a son, Brandan, and a daughter, Andra. After retiring from a 27-year tenure at the Bagdad copper mine in 2004, Morris and Frankie moved to Prescott, Ariz., where the two were able to share lots of time and love with their grandson, Martin. Throughout his life, Morris was always a thoughtful, caring man who was able to touch the lives of many others, as well as having his life touched in turn by the many wonderful people he encountered in his time here. In no aspect of his life was this more evident than in his love of music, of which he was a devoted fan and performer. As a prolifically performing drummer in many bands, Morris always enjoyed meeting others who shared his enthusiasm for music. Although he would have performed solo with no one around to hear, he enjoyed nothing more than sharing his percussion performances with an audience of those who loved and appreciated music as well as he did. Morris also enjoyed the people he met and the experiences he shared through his other various hobbies and interests, which included travel, scuba diving and participating in classic car and auto shows. Preparing the way for his arrival in Heaven was his father, Donald. He is survived by his devoted wife Frankie Lynn; mother Mildred; son Brandan; daughter and son-in-law Andra and Shannon Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law LaDonna and Mark Dabbs; grandson Martin Gavaldon-Armstrong; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Mountain View Cemetery on Willow Creek Road. Morris and the family request that in lieu of flowers or other considerations, donations be made to Hospice of the Pines in Prescott or to the American Cancer Society.
