Herbert Benjamin Haley Jr., a 40-year resident of Kingman, passed away quietly on March 29 from complications after suffering a stroke. "Herb" was born to his parents, Herbert Sr. and Mildred (Burrell), in Brockton, Mass. on August 28, 1926, and grew up in Middleborough, Mass.
In January 1945, Herb entered the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines, where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, a Good Conduct Medal, a Philippine Independence medal and a World War II Victory medal. After returning to Massachusetts, Herb married Annette Bartlett and they moved to Burbank, Calif., where Herb worked in the anodizing industry in Los Angeles. In 1962, the family returned to Lakeville, Mass., and Herb worked in construction. He loved working with machinery and equipment but was happiest when driving his own tractor on his own land.
In 1974, he had an opportunity to return to the West. When he found Kingman, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life there. Herb worked for Duval Mining for several years while building a landscaping business of his own. Eventually he made the transition to working for himself full-time and was proud of his work at many, many locations throughout Kingman. He spent the last years of his life greatly enjoying time traveling to visit family.
Herb is survived by his loving companion of many years, Myrline Aultman; his sister, Lorraine of New Hampshire; sons, Kenneth (Mary) of Oregon and David (Gale) of California; daughters, Donna (Charles) of New Hampshire and Susan of Oregon; his grandchildren, Tammy (Glenn), Katherine (Liz), Kristie (Angela), Jeanette, Anthony, Wendy (Daniel), April (Derek), Michelle (Andy), Angel (Sean), Nichole (Blake), Thomas, Alex and Lily; great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Douglas, Anthony Jr., Colin, Tyler, Gabe, Jason, Geoff, Renae, Caitlyn, Haley, TJ, Gavin, Sean, Ty, Mackenzie, Carter, Olivia, Rowan and Sienna; and his first wife, Annette of Massachusetts. His second wife, Virginia, precedes him in death.
Services will be at the discretion of the family. Final arrangements are under the direction of the Sutton Memorial Funeral Home of Kingman.
