Gene Hoover
"The Last Farewell" - the title of the new CD that Gene had intended to record when he was called to start a new journey which began with his passing last week. Gene was born in 1935 in Mansfield, Ohio. He got his first guitar at the age of 12, and became the ultimate, multi-talented musician, songwriter, band leader, carpenter, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He traveled throughout the country with many country western stars as band leader/guitarist/singer, and has appeared at Knott's Berry Farm, rodeos, state and county fairs, weddings, parties, night clubs, and for our servicemen in Greenland. His Prairie Rain Band was popular throughout the quad-city area for many years, and led to us meeting many wonderful, treasured, forever friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbie; son, Tim (Marsha); daughters, Tammy and Danielle; grandchildren, Jason (Heather), Josh, Rob, Sara and Ashley; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Brooklyn, Aubrey, Morgan and Mike.
A memorial service (celebration of life) will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Moose Lodge in Prescott Valley, 6501 E. 6th St. Please come and share memories of Gene and perhaps a song or two.
