Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ Published on Sunday, April 27, 2014 - Winnie passed away April 18, 2014, in Phoenix. She was a resident of Wikieup from 1972 until recently. Winnie was born Winifred Blevins on Oct. 2, 1927, in Gallop, N.M., to Martin Jackson Blevins and Myrtle McComas Blevins. Winnie moved to Phoenix at a young age and settled in Wikieup in 1972 with her husband, Atwell "Pete" Beatty. Winnie was a waitress for many years of her life, mainly working at the Desert Sky Hotel and Restaurant on 30th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix. Her work ethic was second to none and she passed this trait on to her children. Winnie is preceded in death by her husband, Pete; daughter, Martha Stodghill; daughter, Ida Cowens; brother, Elmo Proctor Blevins; sister, Daisy Durham; grandson, Tim Johnson; and granddaughter, Marie Stodghill. Winnie is survived by children, Annie Carr (Yuma), Sam Cracraft (Wikieup), George Cracraft (Peoples Valley, Ariz.), Terry James (Kingman), Karl Reddell, Lester Cracraft (Salisaw, Okla.), Lloyd Cracraft (La Grande, Ore.) and Floyd "Charlie" Cracraft (Lodi, Calif.); 35 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Winnie's paternal grandfather, John Black Blevins, was involved in the Pleasant Valley War - the deadliest feud in United States history in the 1880s and 1890s, a war between the Grahms, cattlemen, and the Tewksburys, sheepherders, where the Blevins sided with the Grahms. John was the only male survivor of the Blevins family and was present at the famous gunfight in Holbrook, Ariz., where two of his brothers were killed by Commodore Perry Owens. John was arrested and sentenced to the Yuma Territorial Prison but was pardoned by the governor of Arizona when he was in route by train to the Yuma prison. John's wife, Evelyn Mary Rainbolt, was a full-blooded Pima Indian. They are buried together in Phoenix. Winnie has passed this rich family history down to her loved ones. She will be truly missed by her family and all who knew her. The family will hold a private memorial service to remember Winnie and requests no flowers or donations. A very special thank you goes out to Trish Roaten for the loving care you gave to our mother during her last days.
