Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Monday, April 28, 2014 - John T. Pickering, “Pop’s”, age 77, passed away April 13, 2014. He resided in Buckeye and Havasu Heights, Ariz. At the time of his death, he was staying with his grandson Derek Clark and his wife Trish. He was born Aug. 15, 1936 in Ojai, Calif., moving to Merced, Calif. in 1943, attended Weaver Elementary School and met his future wife, Dolores Flores. They were married Nov. 27, 1954 and eventually moved to La Mirada, Calif. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was Mason in the Norwalk, Calif. Masonic Lodge. John is survived by his children, Kathy Wilkinson and Steven (Debbie) Pickering of Lake Havasu City and Mark Pickering of Corona, Calif.; five grandkids, Derek (Trish) Clark, Goodyear, Ariz.; Lynnette Pickering, Tyler Wilkinson, Bre-Ana Wilkinson and Caitlin Pickering, all of Lake Havasu City; his sister, Shirley Minor, Merced, Calif. and two great- grandkids, Kori and Rudy. He had a very special lady in his life, Shirley Silva of Merced, Calif. He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife, Dolores Pickering, June 27, 2002 and parents Johnny and Lucille Pickering, Feb. of 1998. He will be missed by his best friend and pet, Precious. John, or Pop’s as everyone knew him, loved the lake, racing his boat, spending time with his family; he had many close friends where he lived, who took care of his place during his illness. A Celebration of Life will be May 17, at his residence and his ashes will be scattered during a private ceremony at a later date. His family would like to thank everyone who called and sent cards, it meant the world to them; also to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix who were very good to John and his family.
