Bianca Sabina "Bee" Coyle
(January 8, 1938 - April 19, 2014)
Bee Coyle passed away quietly at the Olivia White Hospice surrounded by her family and a few close friends at 12:24 p.m. Praying with her was Fr. Patrick from San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Flagstaff.
Bee's mother, Hanorah Keane, and father, Patrick Moore, were from Tarbert, County Kerry, Ireland. Bee was born in Chicago. Her parents and a sister, Norine Novak of Chicago, preceded her in death. The whereabouts of an older brother, Michael Joe, and sister, Tess, both of Great Britain, are unknown.
Bee graduated from Visitation Catholic Girls High School in Chicago. She lived briefly in Indiana and Arizona before settling in San Diego with her children. Bee worked at the San Diego Police Department for 25 years before retiring in 1998 as a Communications Dispatch Supervisor. Bee and her police officer husband, Joe, met over the radio in 1975 and soon married. The two enjoyed photography, backpacking, coastal sailing, traveling, woodworking and pretty much anything they could do together.
They moved to Flagstaff in 1998 and were active in the Route 66 Car Club of Flagstaff. Bee gained notoriety as a fund raiser for the car club as well as for Flagstaff Art in the Park. Bee also volunteered at Flagstaff Medical Center on the Patient and Family-Centered Care Committee.
Bee was known to her doctors as the poster child for cancer survivors and more recently as the Energizer Bunny. Bee battled five primary cancers since 1990. To look at her, one would never suspect what she endured on a daily basis. Her smile, charm and love of life eclipsed all disease.
Bee is survived by her husband of 38 years, Joe Coyle of Flagstaff; two children, Jay Riordan and Connie Magnani, of San Diego; her stepdaughters, whom she always considered as her own, Lora "Suzie" Clay of San Diego, and Mary Touchton of Phlugerville, TX; and three grandsons, Patrick and Christopher Riordan, and Connor Heinz, all of San Diego.
A celebration of her life and reception is slated for Tuesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary on Route 66 in Flagstaff. Final interment will be at MCAS Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA, in late May.
