Luz was the second youngest of eight children born to Petronilia Montez and Faustino Medina. She was born in Miami, Ariz. and attended George Washington School. Luz was a talented artist who used her home as her canvas. You could view her art on designs on the staircase, floors and especially decorations during the holidays.
She did not have children of her own but helped raise countless nephews and nieces, who lived with her for extended periods of their lives and have come to recognize her as a second mother and a major influence in their lives.
Luz worked as a private caregiver and at a local laundry and dry cleaners to help support the nieces and nephews she raised. She volunteered at the local food bank and at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Alter Society.
She had two principal roles in the family, a diplomat and enforcer. As a diplomat she traveled to different cities and states wherever the family members lived to provide support and comfort. As an enforcer she lovely meted out the discipline for infraction of the family rules. All of the nieces and nephews recall these with varying degrees of fondness.
