Roxanne “Summers” Ruth Charley
June 2, 1950 - April 24, 2014
Roxanne Ruth Summers Charley passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 on her own terms. She died peacefully and softly, being reconciled with the turn of events that ended her very busy and active life.
Roxanne was born to Eleanor and Patrick Summers of Portland, Ore., on June 2, 1950, being the youngest in a family of five children.
She completed her formal education at Marshall High School and then launched herself into the world eager for adventure, change and more education, in the way she wanted to learn.
She was mother to Cara Kiley, who pre-deceased Roxanne April 20, 2010. Cara was the best adventure Roxanne ever had in life. In a way they helped each other grow up, having secured a fierce love for each other and a bond that carried them through life’s rough patches.
Roxanne had an interest in many things and a passion for a few things that brought her much pleasure and satisfaction. She cherished family first, loved her friends and expressed a caring heart to her community at The Rim.
She felt an organic and deep connection for her dog Souka, a rescued Portuguese street dog. It was love at first site and Souka was determined to have Roxanne in her life. A love affair was born that never failed Roxanne, and Souka became the one steady constant Roxanne could rely on.
She had a passion for golf, an eye and love for beauty on all levels, she enjoyed keeping fit, using yoga, scuba diving, hiking, golf as the choices of fitness, she found endless pleasure in flowers and gardening, and was ultimately a jeans and T-shirt girl at heart.
She lived in Portland until she discovered the joys of living in the endless sunshine of Scottsdale, Ariz. Having built a second home in Desert Highlands with her previous husband, Fred Charley, she discovered just how much sun, golf and her Arizona friends satisfied a need in her, and so she stayed.
Outgrowing the Scottsdale lifestyle as she knew it, she opted for three years of life as an ex-pat living in southern Portugal. She blossomed with new friends, a new passion helping save countless, neglected street dogs, which ultimately brought her Souka.
After returning to Scottsdale, she found the community to live, work and play in that reflected her mature and soft side, in Payson. Here she infused her love of people, golf and the outdoors with her upbeat energy and her desire to keep The Rim a vibrant, healthy and active community that would reflect a desirable place to live and play. She had found her home. Consequently she touched dozens of lives in the area in a positive and effervescent way. The loss of her influence and personality was felt immediately and she would be a little surprised at how deeply she is already missed.
She is one of those people who leave lasting footprints on one’s heart and those footprints now become a thing to cherish, remember and reflect upon.
