He was born July 15, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Edith (Hern) Reiter. Bob had a very strong work ethic that he said was passed onto him by his father. He quit high school halfway through his first year and worked until he was 17 and could enlist in the Navy. After three years, he returned to civilian life in 1955. He was discharged on a Friday and began working for Motorola the following Monday. Bob apprenticed as a household electrician, but did not particularly enjoy the work. One Saturday on the commuter train, his father overheard a couple of men discussing their need for "someone to do the grunt work" in their dental lab, and on the following Monday, Bob began his next career. He owned and operated the Reiter Orthodontic Lab, and over the years his knowledge and abilities in the field qualified him to teach orthodontic dental technology at the college level at the Triton Technical College in the Chicago area. Bob met his wife, Barbara, while she was working in a dental office as a hygienist in downtown Chicago. She moved to California, he proposed, they married and enjoyed life in the San Francisco Bay area. He retired in 1996, and Barbara and Bob relocated to Prescott to care for her parents who had retired to the area years ago. Bob had many hobbies throughout his lifetime. While in Chicago, he belonged to the Chicago Area Camera Club. He was a Master Gardener and his suburban backyard was registered in the National Audubon Society. He enjoyed listening to classical music and opera and was an extra in the Chicago Lyric Opera. In California and Arizona, he carried on his gardening skills, and his backyard was a registered habitat with the National Wildlife Federation. Bob was a gourmet cook, and throughout his life was a super handyman. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Alan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his brother Mark; four children, Linda Dinneen, Scott Reiter, Allison Weber and Steve Reiter; four grandchildren, Shaunna, Nicholas, Kaitlin and Zachary; and three great-grandchildren, Trenton John, Annalise June and Colton Christopher. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 600 W. Hillside, Prescott. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign the guestbook.
