JEFFERSON, Francis (Jeff)

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, May 11, 2014 - Francis “Jeff” Jefferson, 84, passed away May 5, 2014 at Las Vegas Sunrise Hospital. He was born in Sedan, Kan. Jan. 4, 1930. He served four years in the Air Force before his life’s journey took him to Alaska where he dug coal with a crane to supply the military bases near Anchorage. Jeff always had a humorous, creative flair; which showed after purchasing a new Ford 3/4-ton truck to haul his mobile home between job sites in Alaska. Unfortunately, the truck and trailer were too long to be legal on the roads. Undaunted, Jeff cut his truck in two and shortened it to make it legal. Who but Jeff would think of undertaking such a task and not be afraid to do it? These were qualities he displayed all his life. Government jobs took Jeff to the Oregon coast, Idaho, Montana and Washington. He participated in the construction of many hydroelectric dams on the Snake River as well as other dams in the northern states. Retiring, he settled in Lake Havasu City. Here he found the love of his life, Beverly Hoover. Together they enjoyed fishing and traveling adventures, including a road trip to Alaska, the highlight of their excursions. Jeff loved driving his dune buggy over the rugged desert and mountain terrains with friends. Full of fun and laughter, Jeff made many friends and enjoyed and loved playing poker, reading books, evaluating and fixing mechanical problems and participating in activities at the Elks, Eagles and Desert Singles Club. Jeff is survived by his companion, Beverly Hoover and numerous nieces and nephews, most of who live in Idaho. A memorial service in honor of Jeff will be scheduled for a later date when his ashes will be spread on Lake Havasu. Condolences can be sent to the family directly or through www.lakehavasumortuary.com. Arrangements are under the care of Lake Havasu Mortuary and Crematory, 2225 N. Kiowa Blvd.
