John Lawrence (Larry) Hale
Larry passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, surrounded by his family on April 29. His was a life well-lived and Larry will be cherished in love.
Larry was born to Jay and Janice Hale on Oct. 2, 1951 in Hemet Ca. He graduated from Hemet High in 1969 and from NAU in Flagstaff in 1973 with a BS in Anthropology/History.
While at NAU, Larry entered the Postal Service becoming a carrier for 35 years and also serving as Union Steward for some years before retiring in 2006.
Larry also met his best friend and wife of 38 years, Betsy, at NAU through Christian fellowship and music. Writing music, performing together at numerous weddings and events and leading worship at several local churches for many years brought him fulfillment.
Art, reading, and learning were also passions for Larry making traveling, meeting people from all over the world a favorite past-time. He studied and taught Biblical Archeology in local churches and participated in 2 digs at Qumran in Israel.
In retirement, Larry especially enjoyed being in nature and combined his passions and knowledge by becoming a tour guide for Southwest Tours, LLC., specializing in Archeology and History of this area.
Larry was known as a compassionate, gentle, and kind man. His unreserved love for God, family, and friends made him a joy to be around. He was especially thrilled that all 3 of his children and grandchildren live in Flagstaff and treasured time spent with them.
Larry is survived by his wife Betsy, sons Jason and Tim, daughter Sharon; grandchildren Jadon, Liahna, and Aliya; mother Janice, brothers Steve and Jim, and sister Christy Phillips.
A Celebration of Life will be on June 21 at 11:00 at Trinity Heights Church - 3600 N. 4th St Flagstaff - 928-526-1397. Refreshments will follow.
