BLACKFORD, Napoleon F. (Nip)

Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona December 29, 1932, page 2, column 5 Skipper Of Old Stages Is Dead Death at one o'clock this morning in the hospital of the Arizona Pioneer Home removed one of Arizona's early-day stage drivers whose experiences were multiple and race horse follower. Napoleon Blackford would have been 81 years old next January 23. He had been failing rapidly in health for the last three or four months. His advanced age and complications attendant upon it hastened his demise. Missouri was the place of his birth on January 23, 1852. He was the son of W. D. and Jane E. (Will) Blackford. On August 19, 1877, he took up residence at Camp Verde which then was one of the important military posts of this section of the state. On June 18, 1917, he entered the pioneer's home from Yavapai county. So far as it was known by Supt. Dan J. Seaman of the home, Mr. Blackford never was married. Horses were his only love. A brother, believed to be his only survivor, died three or four years ago. The time for the funeral services has not been determined but burial will take place in the Pioneer's cemetery in Miller Valley. Transcriber's note: The Death Certificate is possibly wrong as his parents are more probably N. G. and Jane E. (Hill) Blackford. Transcriber's note: Mr. Blackford is buried in an unmarked grave at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
