Jimmie Lee Greer
(September 16, 1913 - May 14, 2014)
Jimmie Lee Greer, 100, slipped peacefully into God and her late husband Robert’s loving arms on May 14, 2014, surrounded by close family and friends.
Jimmie Lee was truly an inspirational woman who impacted everyone she met with her golden spirit, sharp mind, wit, humor, candor and wisdom.
To know her was to know what delicious food (pie!) really tastes like, to learn who Minnie Pearl’s doppelganger really was and to see what an upstanding Mother, Grandmother, Christian and friend truly is. Jimmie Lee brought the term “rags to riches” to life.
Born in Olney, Texas on September 16, 1913, she was one of 6 children being raised on her parent’s farm. She took great pride that she moved away from that life and into town so she could receive an education not available to her in the country. After graduating high school she went on to teach a class to children on how to speak proper English!
In 1932 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Greer Jr. The couple moved to Globe, AZ in January 1941 where Robert worked in the copper industry. In September of 1945 they made their home in Flagstaff, AZ where they came to own and operate the Camp Townsend restaurant, store and cabins, now Greer’s RV Park and The Elm’s Mobile Home Park. Jimmie Lee lived on the property she loved, in the home she and her husband built, from May 1, 1946 until her death. Their home was always “the house by the side of the road” and nobody that needed help was ever turned away.
She showed by example what hard, honest work was about and eagerly taught the next two generations how to continue to work hard and reap the benefits of what she and her husband had established. The family is eternally grateful for this gift. We have all been truly blessed to have known and loved a woman of such class and dignity. We celebrate that the heavens are receiving such a glorious new angel; however, she will be dearly and deeply missed. We will always love you Jimmie Lee Greer and your memory will continue to inspire us daily.
She is survived by her beloved son Robert Greer III and daughter in law Diana Greer. Her grandchildren; Rob Greer, Matt Massey and Eran DoBell and Great Grandchildren Irie Massey and Uriah, Zerachya and Elias DoBell.
A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held at Greenlaw Baptist Church, 3400 E. Lockett Rd., Flagstaff, AZ on Saturday, May 17th at 1pm. Burial will follow.
