Former and long time resident, Helen Pires passed away peacefully May
12, 2014 at the Marquis Companies Nursing Home in Las Vegas after a
battle with dementia.
Helen was born March 14, 1929 in Providence, R.I. After graduating high
school in 1947, she attended Brown University for two years for her
associate degree. After a successful 10-year career as a professional
secretary, she married and moved to East Providence, R.I. There she had
two children and stayed at home to be a homemaker.
In 1978, after ‘The Blizzard 78’ smothered the entire East Coast with
snow, the family moved to Lake Havasu City to much warmer weather. After
moving to Havasu, Helen worked at the old Rodeway Inn on London Bridge
Road and after they changed ownership, she worked for Hydro Dynamics,
Mission Linens and at the McCulloch plant. In 1993, she retired and in
2010 moved to Las Vegas with her son- and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by son, Anthony Pires and granddaughter, Tabitha Pires,
both of Lakewood, Colo.; and son, George Pires and daughter in law,
Bridget Pires both of Las Vegas. A private ceremony in Las Vegas with
family will take place.
