Mortuary Notice Friday, October 21, 1881 Tombstone Daily Epitaph (Tombstone, AZ) Death of Hon. George R. York. Star. Oct 20th. CLIFTON, Graham Co., A. T., Oct. 19th, 1881.--George R. York, representative for Apache county in the Legislature of 1880, was killed by the Apache Indians near Stein's Peak, on the 13th of October, while in pursuit of thieves who had driven off his horses. He, together, with others, was ambushed by the Indians, and with one other person was killed. Mr. York was a man of great energy, brave, honest and kind, and beloved and respected by all. He was born in Clinton county, Indiana, March 5th, 1843, and served four years in the 26th Indiana Volunteers in the Union Army. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his untimely fate.
