Weekly Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, June 12, 1912, page 5, col. 3 Masons To Lay David Massey To Rest Poetic Sentiment Attests Tender Memory of Admiring Friend (From Tuesday's Daily David Massey, one of the most prominent and highly respected members of the local colored community, died early Saturday morning after an illness of some years, of tuberculosis. The funeral will take place Thursday at 3 p.m. from the residence on South Marina street, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. A trustee of the Zion African M. E. Church and always a leader in social movements looking to the betterment of his race, Mr. Massey filled a high place in the regard of all good citizens during the whole period of his residence here over six years. Prior to coming to Prescott, deceased was a trusted foreman for the Barber Asphalt company for many years, having taken charge of large gangs of laborers for this company in all parts of the United States and Europe. He brought to Prescott credentials of the highest order. Mr. Massey leaves a mother, two sisters and a brother, who together with a host of friends, mourn his untimely death. He was forty years of age and the owner of considerable city reality. During his residence here he followed the business of a contracting janitor and house cleaner and had a large clientele.
