Carolyn has many extended family and special friends including Jimmy Jordan, Mary Bradley, Carmen Baldwin, Omar Nelson, Jenny Caster, Carol Mathewson, the Wall Family and many more.
Carolyn was born April 13, 1937 in Chicago, Ill. where she was raised. She lived there for 20 years where she studied acting at the Goodman Theater. She moved to Minneapolis, Minn. in the late 1950s where she married her first husband, divorced, then married her second husband and began to raise three of her four children. In Minneapolis she continued acting at the Guthrie Theater and was also involved in the art scene.
After 10 years in Minneapolis, Carolyn moved with her family to live with friends on a farm in Oregon. She gave birth to her fourth child in Eugene. In 1976, she began her studies at the University of Oregon where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism as well as completing postgraduate work. In 1986, she grew tired of the Oregon rain and moved her family to sunny Arizona.
It was in Arizona that her career as a professional journalist blossomed. Carolyn worked as a reporter for the Bisbee Gazette, Bisbee Observer, Sierra Vista Herald, KDAP radio, and the Douglas Dispatch. In 1990, she married Kevin Wall. In 1998, they moved to Payson to be closer to Carolyn’s father and sister who were residents there.
In Payson, she continued her journalistic adventures writing for the Payson Roundup, Rim Country Gazette, and the Mogollon Connection. She also had her own blog, The Payson Daily Bugle. Regarding her own life, she wrote, “It has been a life reflecting individuality, a life of spirit, color and infinite possibilities, explored and unexplored.”
Carolyn freely shared her kind, loving heart with all who came within the circle of her friendship including many dear friends from all over the country.
She will be fondly remembered for her free spirit, her love of animals, betting the horses, going to the theater and for the thrill she got from hunting for thrift store treasures and finding the best bakeries with her sister, Gloria.
The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Hospice Compassus of Payson and especially her loving nurse, Kori Wells, whom Mom said is now her unofficially adopted child, and to all who provided support and care to Carolyn and to her entire family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations toward family expenses or to Hospice Compassus. Family donations can be sent to Kevin Wall, 918 E. Willow Circle, Payson, AZ 85541. Donations to Hospice may be sent to Rim Country Hospice Foundation P.O. Box 305 Payson, AZ 85547.
Carolyn gifted her organs to scientific research in order to help find a cure.
Memorial service will be held June 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260, Payson Ariz.
