PEW, Thomas Lane (Tom)


Meldrum Mortuary & Crematory, Mesa, Arizona Thomas Lane Pew January 2, 1948 ~ May 24, 2014 Thomas Lane Pew was born in Mesa Arizona on January 2, 1948, to William Lane and Evelyn Louise Pew. He was their first son, followed by Ralph and Sam. Tom married his great love, Billie Jean Pew, on January 2, 1982 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Surrounded by family, he passed from this life peacefully in the early morning hours of May 24, 2014. He is survived by his wife Billie Jean, and six children. Jarron (Robyn), Billy McGonagill (Rebecca), Jon (Julie), Joshua (Tiffany), Valerie Sparks (Cameron), and Celynda Dewitt (Brian). Tom put family first and created meaningful relationships with each of his children. He was extremely proud of his twenty-two grandchildren and prayed for their success and happiness. Tom lived a life of love, service and family. He attended Westwood High where he was a State Football Champion. Tom went on to be a star quarterback at Eastern Arizona University. Tom played baseball, softball and basketball and shared the love of sports with his children and grandchildren by coaching and cheering their efforts. He loved to watch events with his family and help the refs call a "fair" game. Tom played the trombone and sang in the choir. He shared his parent's great love of music. Tom loved working in his yard and was very gifted at making his grass green, the flowers beautiful, and his garden full. Tom's labors outside the home included working in the lumber and utility industries, owning and operating a lawn care firm and as an independent contractor piloting for large transit vehicles. Tom worked hard and served his family and employers with integrity. Tom was fiercely loyal to friends and family. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and his testimony of the Savior has impacted his family and countless others. Tom served in many leadership and teaching positions in the church. His love was felt deeply by the young men and young single adults he served. Tom loved serving in the LDS Temple and taught this love to his family. His favorite scripture was Joshua 24:15, "Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord". Tom lived and taught this principle to his children. Tom loved to talk, but the greatest messages were delivered in the way he lived. He demonstrated the importance of love for our families the ability to continually increase in love, gentleness, and acceptance. Dad, we miss you and will continue to love, and honor you. A viewing will be held at Meldrum Mortuary 52 N. MacDonald Mesa, AZ 85201 on Thursday May 29, 2014 from 6-8pm. The funeral services will be held the next day at the Mesa North Stake 933 E. Brown Rd. Mesa, AZ 85203 starting at 10am.
