Hazel Franklin passed away May 27, 2014 at her home in Lake Havasu City.
She was surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren.
Hazel was born to John Russell and Dorothy Piper Lindley, Aug. 26, 1920,
in Moulton, Iowa. She was the eighth of 10 children. She is survived by
her sons, Thomas and Jacqueline Franklin, Timothy and Renee Franklin;
and daughter, Linda Wilson all of Lake Havasu City; grandsons, Matthew
and Heather Franklin of Lake Havasu City and Joseph and Hannele Franklin
of Tucson; great-granddaughters Aubrey and Kylie Franklin of Lake Havasu
City and Miia Franklin of Tucson; brother, Garold Lindley of
Centerville, Iowa, and sister-in-law, Patricia Jeffrey of Gardena,
Calif., and numerous nephews, nieces and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Franklin; her
parents; three sisters, Fay Daniels, Mildred Appler and Mary Carter and
five brothers, Max, Fred, Holton, Murl and Harold Lindley and son-in-law
Howard Wilson.
After graduating from high school, Hazel taught four years in a one-room
schoolhouse. After the start of World War II, with one brother in the
Navy, another in the Army, Hazel wanted to be different, so she joined
the Marines. She was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., where she met
her future husband, Bill.
They lived with their three children in Santa Ana, Calif., before moving
in 1986 to Lake Havasu City. Hazel loved to read, sew, play cards and
frequent trips to Laughlin were her favorite pastime.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Moulton Library in care
of Garold Lindley or to Hospice of Havasu.
Memorial service, 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, at Lietz-Fraze Chapel with
military honors.
