Mary “Miss Kitty” Kathryn Lucek

Mary Kathryn Lucek, also known as “Miss Kitty,” passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Scottsdale, Ariz. at the age of 96.
Miss Kitty was a longtime resident of Payson. She began her life on Sept. 23, 1917 in Boonville, Ind. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, John Lucek.
Miss Kitty’s favorite hobbies included decorating, and buying and selling home goods. She enjoyed singing and entertaining, and was best known for her exuberant personality. She was an animal lover and, over the years, personally provided a home for many stray animals.
Kitty is survived by her four children: Susan Santellanes, John, Walter and Brad Lucek; seven grandchildren: Beverly Carey, Jennifer Howard, Leonard Burkland IV, Walter Lucek, Julie and Michael Lucek and Austin Lucek; nine great-grandchildren: Christopher, Cody and Gabriella Howard, Skylar and Mason Burkland, Matthew and Mitchell Carey, and Kevin and Caden Lucek.
Miss Kitty was proud to be named a Payson Pioneer and will be laid to rest in the Payson Pioneer Cemetery on Monday, June 2 at 11 a.m. Friends are welcome to attend.
