(March 27, 1942 - May 19, 2014)
James Clifford Pitts Jr.
A well-known Flagstaff citizen has gone to that place from where no traveler returns. James (Jimmy) Clifford Pitts, Jr. died with his family at his side on the evening of Monday May 19th in the 72nd year of his life.
Although not completely unexpected, for he was well traveled in the winter of his days, his many friends can attest his health has been failing and that he had “fallen into the fall, the leaf has turned yellow.” While recently slowed by sickness, he maintained up to his death, his manly sense and energy of mind.
Mr. Pitts came to Flagstaff at the age of eight from Prescott with his parents where he lived in Clark Homes. He graduated from Flagstaff High School. He was an entrepreneur and businessman. He identified himself with many occupations including, service stations, a Laundromat, a restaurateur and barkeeper. His primary interest was the now famous Widow Maker Inn, which was his ever-foremost works of enterprise. From the Widow Maker came the Cattle Barons Cook Camp and Saloon, which eventually just became the Cattle Barons.
For many years he has been active with the Flagstaff Sheriff’s Posse assisting in fundraising and charitable acts. Respectable in his conduct, industrious in his habits and amiable in temperament, he was loved by all who knew him. He never met a stranger and one always left a friend.
Jimmy is survived by the family to which he was fondly attached, his son James Cashe, grandsons Colby James and Caden Cashe, Daughter-in-law Molly Ray, Cousins Georgia (Garbarino)Biller, William Garbarino, Paul Pitts, Chuck and Donald Dorman. His parents Ernestine and James Clifford Pitts Sr., and his sister Cathy Holiday precede him in death.
Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Christ’s Church of Flagstaff on Saturday, May 31st at 10 am. A reception will be held at the Elks Club in Flagstaff beginning at noon.
