BOSTON, Donald (Don)

Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Donald Boston (September 21, 1927 - June 10, 2014) Donald “Don” Boston As the eldest daughter I was asked to write my father’s obituary and strongly encourage every child to do this. I thought I knew my father well, but have learned much about him after completing this task. He was strong, driven, articulate, ethical and committed to his work and family. He was a man that quietly explored his spirituality and beliefs. I am honored, as I am sure my siblings are, to have been his child. On the evening of June 10, 2014, Don an 86 year old Texan gentleman passed away peacefully after many visits and bedside chats with his family at Olivia White Hospice House. He joined his many friends and family that preceded him in death. Don faced a long challenge with many health issues since 2001. Don was born in Oplin, Texas and raised by his Grandparents, John and Mary Elizabeth Boston; uncles and aunts, R. B. and Hattie Boston; Charles and Ola Varner all from Oplin, Texas. Don was in the Air Force from 1945 to 1948.stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas as a sergeant of the 3546th Maintenance Squadron. His primary education was in Texas where he graduated from high school as the salutorian in 1945. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now known as Oklahoma State University) in 1951 with a degree in Journalism. He married Doris Warren January 12,1952 and started their life and family together. His career progressed as he started as a journalist/sports reporter for the Stillwater News Press, reporter in Port Arthur, Texas, and finally at the Pecos News where he joined Jack Hawkins in news and broadcasting. His radio broadcasting career started at Big Lake Texas (KBLT) as well as a reporter for the San Angelo News in San Angelo, Texas. His broadcasting career continued in Taos, New Mexico (KKIT) and Cortez, Colorado (KVFC). In 1972 Don and his family moved to Page, Arizona where he worked with Dale and Willa-Don Holmes at KPGE. He and his wife, Doris, purchased the True Value Hardware Store in 1977and the store is currently owned by his sons. Don had strong personal and professional work ethics, but he also did not hesitate to enjoyed life with his and Doris’s many friends and family. He loved sports and most of his broadcasting was around sporting events. He loved golf both playing and watching. He fished and hunted. He loved to watch old westerns. Don was a fearless father. Don and Doris had five children, Donna, Daniel, David, Douglas and Diann. Not sure what the “D” thing was all about. After 62 years of marriage and five children come many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survived by his wife, Doris and following family: Donna and Mark Price – Grandchildren: Tanya (deceased), Dana, and Marcus (married to Samantha) and there are two great grandchildren: Shea and Braden. Daniel and Judy Boston- Grandchildren: Bryan (soon to be married to Amanda) and Robert (mother Kim Boston). Step granddaughters Deanne & Carrie and there are four great grandchildren: Heather, Tyler, Amber and Cody. David and Christina Boston- Grandchildren: Dustin (married to Heather) and Faressa (married to Joey DeVenuto). There are six great grandchildren and one on the way. They are Madeline, Christian, Lindy, Jameson, Ida and Joey Jr. Douglas and Jody Boston- Grandchildren Douglas Jr. (married to Rosey) and Bridgette (married to Jake Jelliff). There are five great grandchildren: Katrina, Sean, Julian, Corinne, Hannah (deceased) Diann and Rudy Fornero -Grandchildren: Cynthia (married to Steven), Micheal, Sarah, Sam, Yael, and Donald. There are five great grandchildren: Matthew, Jaydin, Peyton, Taos and Zoey. We all have our favorite memories and would gladly share if asked. Don was a member of the Masons, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. The Memorial Service to honor his life will be on June 21 at 4pm at Faith Bible Chapel located at 551 San Francisco Road in Page, Arizona The family would suggest memorial contributions be given to the Donald Boston Coconino Community College Scholarship Fund in his memory and honor. Contributions may be sent to the Coconino Community College Foundation, 2800 S. Lone Tree Road, Flagstaff, AZ, 86005. This fund will contribute to the first two years of study for a deserving Page journalism/communications student.
