Carol A. Finstad, age 78 of Lake Havasu City, formerly of Milbank, S.D.,
died June 2, 2014 in Lake Havasu City. Rev. Carol Ann (Westensee)
Finstad was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Fairfax, Minn. She was the daughter
of Herman and Amelia (Sosinski) Westensee.
After graduating high school, she continued her education at the
Minnesota School of Business. United in marriage with Wesley Finstad,
Aug. 6, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax, the couple lived
in Fairfax until 1963 before moving to Milbank, S.D. They owned and
operated Finstad's Red Owl Grocery Store and Finn's Lawn & Garden. Years
later, she worked at Midland Printing.
Wes and Carol moved to Lake Havasu City in 1998. Wes died Dec. 20, 1999.
She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City. Carol
served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary in Milbank and in
Fairfax and a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary, both
in Arizona.
Cherishing her memory are her children, Terri Neel of Wenatchee, Wash.,
Kristi Sanderson of Greeley, Colo., Pam (Vinny) Monaco of Creskill, N.J.
and Eric (Holly) Finstad of Rogers, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Molly
Sjolander, Chloe Sanderson, Samantha Monaco, David Monaco, Alex Finstad
and Hannah Finstad; as well as many nieces, nephews and very good
friends in Fairfax, Minn., Milbank, S.D., Lake Havasu City and
throughout the United States.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law,
Gerry Sanderson; sisters, Lois Johnson and Mauraine Wahl; brother, Galen
Westensee.
Visitation took place at Mundwiler Funeral Home. A memorial service was
June 7, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Keith Bicknase officiated
and burial was in the Milbank City Cemetery.
