Eugene "Gene" Higgins, 86, born in Prescott, Ariz., on Nov. 22, 1927, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 11, 2014.
A true Prescottonian, Gene loved his hometown and took pride in graduating from PHS and raising his family here. He enjoyed a career in machining, and during his retirement spent his time outdoors and with those he loved. He took great pride in his country and his service in the Navy.
He enjoyed tinkering- there was nothing he couldn't fix or repurpose. He delighted in gardening and sharing his bountiful crops. Most of all, he loved his family and lived his life in the most honorable way, leaving a legacy of love and knowledge.
He had a truly generous spirit and those who had the privilege of knowing him, loving him and learning from him will miss Gene deeply.
He was preceded in death by his true love, Jean Louise (Neff) Higgins, in 1982.
He is survived by sons Don Higgins (Katie Baird) and Steve Higgins (Julie); four grandchildren, Marie, Casey (Skyla), Riley and Rae Higgins; five great-grandchildren, Tessa, Aiden, Layla, Payton and Hadley; three bonus grandchildren, Andrew (Brittany), Eamon and Dillon Baird; one bonus great-grandchild, Noe; and many extended family members and dear friends.
