Richard H. Hughes, 69, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2014. He was born in Casa Grande, Ariz., on Aug. 1, 1944. He was a native Arizonan and he split his time between Prescott and Eloy, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas "Red" and Dolores Hughes; his sister Sally Hughes Hatchett; and his brother Jimmy Hughes.
He is survived by his fiancée, Corrine Freerking of Eloy, and his six children and their spouses, Natalie Hughes-Poland (Kent) of Solana Beach, Calif., Richard Hughes Jr. (Jackie) of Spring, Texas, Clint Hughes of Dewey, Ariz., and Justin Hughes (Erin) of Queen Creek, Ariz.; the mother of the four eldest children and wife of 32 years, Shirley Hampton Cates; Sonora and Colton Hughes of Desert Hills, Ariz.; their mother Jackie Hughes; and 12 grandchildren.
Richard was a business owner of Eloy Automotive and Diesel and was highly respected in his field. To those who knew him he was a great friend and someone they could depend on in a pinch and he had a generous heart towards all. He truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures, morning coffee at sunrise, roping, working with his horses, driving through the state he loved. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh. He is loved by many and will be missed.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on June 21, 2014 at Pinal County Cowboy Church, 18171 W. Hopi, Casa Grande, Ariz., to reminisce, grieve and support one another.
