POWER, Donald Franklin


Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on June 18, 2014 - On June 11, 2014, Donald Franklin Power, 83, left us to join his beloved Sharon. Don was born July 13, 1930, to Earnest and Elisabeth Power in Oceanside, Calif., and was raised in Yuma. At age 19, he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged a year later due to a physical disability. Don and Sharon were married June 23, 1952, in Yuma. Work took them from Yuma to Flagstaff and they finally settled in Kingman in 1965. They were married 54 years when Sharon passed away. Don converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his church and served in many capacities, including bishop and high councilman, blessing the lives of all he served. Don loved sports. He played football for the Yuma High Criminals, receiving All-State honors and helping win the state championship. His love for sports continued throughout his life, playing fast-pitch softball until the age of 60. While serving on the City Council from 1980-1982, he was instrumental in commissioning the construction of the Centennial Park softball fields. Don is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; his son, Donnie Jr.; his brothers, Herb (Mavis) and Jim (Claudette); and his sister, Lura (Jim) Howe. Don is survived by his brothers, Ernie and Jerry (Dixie) Power; his sister, Mickey (John) Fudenna; his children, Debra (Ross) Rogers, Deanna (Dave) Stanley, Denise (Tim) Walsh and Dana (Pamela) Power; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren. There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. with the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the LDS Church, 3180 Rutherford Drive.
