On June 11, 2014, Donald Franklin Power, 83, left us to join his beloved
Sharon. Don was born July 13, 1930, to Earnest and Elisabeth Power in
Oceanside, Calif., and was raised in Yuma.
At age 19, he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He was
honorably discharged a year later due to a physical disability.
Don and Sharon were married June 23, 1952, in Yuma. Work took them from
Yuma to Flagstaff and they finally settled in Kingman in 1965. They were
married 54 years when Sharon passed away.
Don converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He
loved his church and served in many capacities, including bishop and
high councilman, blessing the lives of all he served.
Don loved sports. He played football for the Yuma High Criminals,
receiving All-State honors and helping win the state championship. His
love for sports continued throughout his life, playing fast-pitch
softball until the age of 60. While serving on the City Council from
1980-1982, he was instrumental in commissioning the construction of the
Centennial Park softball fields.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; his son,
Donnie Jr.; his brothers, Herb (Mavis) and Jim (Claudette); and his
sister, Lura (Jim) Howe.
Don is survived by his brothers, Ernie and Jerry (Dixie) Power; his
sister, Mickey (John) Fudenna; his children, Debra (Ross) Rogers, Deanna
(Dave) Stanley, Denise (Tim) Walsh and Dana (Pamela) Power; 22
grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-
grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. with the memorial service at 11 a.m.
Saturday, June 21, at the LDS Church, 3180 Rutherford Drive.
