NOSSAMAN, Warren Edgar

Vistoso Funeral Home, Oro Valley, Arizona Warren Nossaman December 30, 1918 - June 15, 2014 Warren Edgar Nossaman was born on December 30, 1918 to Ober and Gertrude Nossaman in Wichita, KS. He grew up in Wichita and graduated from the University of Wichita in 1940. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and was assigned to the 66th Infantry Division which was shipped to Europe in 1944 for the remainder of WWII. He married his college sweetheart, Barbara Ann Pohlman, in 1946 and they took off on a grand adventure to Frankfurt, Germany where Warren was assigned to General Eisenhower’s headquarters. In 1947 they welcomed their first daughter, Christine. In 1948 Warren was transferred to Ft. Benning, GA to attend the Infantry Officer’s Advanced Course and to serve on the Staff and Faculty of the Infantry School. During this posting, Warren and Barbara greeted the birth of their second daughter, Catherine, in 1948 and their third daughter, Cinda Sue, in 1951. In 1952 Warren was transferred to Korea with the 3rd Infantry Division while Barbara and their daughters returned to the States. When Warren was assigned to Tokyo, Japan with the Military Assistance Advisory Group, the family was happily reunited. Warren’s next posting was to Pittsburgh, KS where he served as a professor of military science in the ROTC program at Kansas State College. Warren and Barbara were delighted when their son, Warren Ober, was born in 1955. By late 1959 Warren and Barbara were stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, KS while Warren studied at the US Army Command and General Staff College for almost a year. Then it was off to Heidelberg, Germany where Warren was assigned to the European Command Headquarters. A year later the family transferred to Schweinfurt, Germany where Warren was reunited with his old outfit, the 3rd Infantry Division. In 1962, Warren took up his last assignment as Army Advisor to the Ohio National Guard in Columbus, OH. After 25 years of military service and receiving two bronze stars along with several other awards and decorations, including the Combat Infantryman’s Badge for service in WWII and Korea, Warren retired in 1966 as a Lt. Colonel and moved his family to St. Louis, MO where he worked with a financial holding company for several years. In 1998, after 32 years in St. Louis, Warren and Barbara moved to Oro Valley, AZ to be near their eldest daughter, Christine, so she could help them as needed during their declining years. Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2004 and Warren lost the love of his life on December 29, 2010. Shortly after Barbara’s death, Warren suffered a small stroke which eventually landed him in the Fairwinds Desert Point independent and assisted living facility. He received outstanding care and support for the three and a half years he lived there and always accepted each little decline in his health with patience and dignity. He was a favorite among the caregivers and staff at Desert Point and he died with Christine at his side on June 15, 2014. Warren is survived by his four children: Christine Whorton (Ronald) of Oro Valley, AZ; Catherine Carey (Stefani Banerian) of Seattle, WA; Cinda Sue Reznicek (Stan) of Kettering, OH and Warren O. Nossaman (Kathy) of Seguin, TX. He also is survived by his granddaughter, Anne Reznicek of Denver, CO. Warren was a loving husband and father and an honorable, decent man. He was a wonderful model for his children and, as a member of the “greatest generation” as Tom Brokaw called it, Warren passed on the very best values of that life and time. Because of how Warren and Barbara raised us, we four children have enjoyed lives of laughter and contentment, just like our parents. We are so very fortunate and thankful for them.
