Thomas Francis Wood passed away June 11, 2014, in Kingman at the age of
75. He was born Jan. 20, 1939, the youngest of seven children, to
Franklin Sr. and Mary E. Wood.
Tom had advanced degrees in mathematics and a varied career in computer
systems and software engineering, most notably working on NATO radar
systems. He was an accomplished tournament bridge player, achieving the
rank of Gold Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.
Tom was smart and funny and kind, with a dry sense of humor and a
penchant for punning. He was well-read and knew at least something about
almost everything. He was fluent in classical Latin and Greek, and often
used snippets from those languages in his puns.
Tom is survived by his wife, Demeter Manning, his companion, friend,
bridge and life partner for 25 years, also of Kingman; his daughters,
Michelle Wood of Providence, R.I., and Emma Wood of Portland, Ore.; his
granddaughter, Annika; his brother, William of Dallas; and many nieces
and nephews.
